NOTICE:
Field Campaign STAR’s
All
observation STARs submitted into the system database have the ground campaign
parameter automatically set to "NO". This is done to ensure that all
field campaign STARs will have personnel in the field, and cancelled field
campaigns do not consume the resource assignment of the instrument. This is
important because ground campaign STARs have different parameter adjustments
that affect the observation schedule for that time period. Requesting a ground
campaign observation for an existing STAR can be coordinated with ASTER SSSG
personnel at JPL.
Investigators
having STARs involving a ground campaign will need to consider the following
criteria set by GDS-Japan (the scheduling station) when planning their field
campaign;
·
JPL SSSG will contact Japan about Field Campaigns with at least 40-day advance
Notice, and reconfirm 10-days prior to scheduled observation.
·
JPL SSSG team will notify the Japan Science Project Manager and the Japan SSSG
about activities related to a particular STAR and the schedule of the Field
Campaign.
·
Japan Science Project Manager will inform flight operations team about the
ground campaign to avoid satellite maneuver activities during the Field
Campaigns.
It is
with these guidelines that JPL SSSG requests of ALL its users to please plan
accordingly and provide JPL SSSG with at least 47-day advance notice (7 day JPL
coordination + 40 GDS instrument coordination). We understand that there will be
an occasion where these criteria may be difficult to meet, so we ask for your
cooperation to help JPL coordinate your ground campaign request.
Please
direct all Field Campaign STAR requests to:

Please note that although a STAR with Field Campaign flag (active) has
been coordinated, there is a possibility that the STAR may not be scheduled due
to operational constraints set by TERRA / ASTER.
