TIMS/TMS Flight Lines And Operations Details
For EOS Joint Calibration /Validation Exercise
23-27 June 1997

Two flight lines were selected, one in Railroad Valley centered on Locke's Ponds and the South Playa site (site used in 1996) and one in the White River Valley (next valley to the East of Railroad Valley) centered on the long axis of the Adams-McGill Reservoir. The coordinates for the ends of these lines and their length are:

Railroad Valley
38 degrees 35.85 minutes North
115 degrees 45.55 minutes West

and

38 degrees 21.63 minutes North
115 degrees 38.55 minutes West
28 km length

White River Valley
38 degrees 26.87 minutes North
115 degrees 01.60 minutes West

and

38 degrees 16.82 minutes North
115 degrees 13.48 minutes West
28 km length

The proposed plan includes flying these lines on the first clear day from 23-26 June and again on 27 June (Landsat day).

Plan for first clear day:
Start the Railroad Valley line at low altitude (4 km, approximately 10 m/pixel) at 10:00 PDT followed by three high (8 km, approximately 20 m/pixel) flights along the same line with about 15 minutes between lines, then fly the White River Valley line at low altitude followed by three high flights along the same line.

Plan for the "Landsat" day:
Fly the Railroad Valley line at high altitude (8 km) three times with the middle line centered on the time (Path/Row 40/33, the Railroad valley scene, will be acquired by Landsat TM-5 on the 27th of June 1997 at about 17 hrs, 53 min UT. (That's 10:53am Pacific Daylight Savings Time)) of the Landsat overflight then fly the White River Valley line at high altitude (8 km) three times.

If the first clear day is the Landsat day, the Landsat day pattern is to be flown and there will be no "low" lines flown.
