Located in Wyoming’s Upper Green River Valley, the Jonah natural gas field is considered one of this country’s most significant natural gas discoveries in recent times. Jonah contains an estimated 7 to 10 Tcf (trillion cubic feet) of natural gas. Discovered in 1975, it was only in the last 10 years that the field turned from sagebrush into one of the nation’s richest gas fields, with 500 wells. A new proposal would add 3,100 more wells. The image was acquired September 3, 2003, covers an area of 10.7 x 13.5 km, and is centered near 42.5 degrees north latitude, 109.7 degrees west longitude.
