The 2002 Olympics Winter Games are hosted by Salt Lake City Utah at several venues within the city, in nearby cities, and within the adjacent Wasatch Mountains. This simulated natural color image (upper left) presents a 3-D perspective view looking east over Salt Lake City to the Wasatch Mountains. This image was acquired on May 28, 2000 by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra satellite. ASTER image data were draped over digital topography data from the US Geological Survey National Elevation Data. A 3-D flyover (upper right) looks at the Olympic venues with a back-drop of a summer frame, changing to a winter scene, then back to the summer image. The image data extend from Ogden in the north, to Provo in the south; and include the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains and the eastern part of the Great Salt Lake.
