In central Sudan, between the White and Blue Niles south of Khartoum, lies the province of Al Jazirah. Due to its great fertility, the area was targeted as a major cotton growing region, and a network of canals was built to bring water to the fields. It has become SudanÔÇÖs major agricultural region, with wheat production replacing about a third of the cotton acreage. The image was acquired November 15, 2009, covers an area of 57 x 36 km, and is located near 14.7 degrees north latitude, 33.1 degrees east longitude.
