Sand Dunes, Namibia

Northern Namibia is known for its widespread bare and sinuous parallel dunes, most of them red. The areas between the dunes are known as dune streets. This landform is formed from long-lasting winds blowing consistently from the same direction; the dunes form parallel to the wind direction. The image was acquired May 7, 2007, covers an area of 49.6 x 58.5 km, and is located near 23.4 degrees south latitude, 18.8 degrees east longitude.
