Tohoku tsunami debris, Japan

The March 11 Tohoku, Japan earthquake and tsunami devastated a large extent of the northeastern Japan coast, and virtually erased many villages and cities from the map. This image of Sendai was acquired March 14 and focuses on revealing the large debris rafts that were created as the tsunami withdrew from inland areas, loaded with rubble from houses, buildings, cars, boats, and trees. The image covers an area of 29.8 x 42.6 km, and is located near 38.2 degrees north latitude, 141.3 degrees east longitude.
