At the mouth of the Kourou River, French Guiana, sits the town of Kourou. It is the port of departure for those going to visit Devil’s Island. But more importantly, a short distance west of town is the Guiana Space Centre, where the European Space Agency, the French space agency CNES, and the commercial Arianespace conduct satellite launches since 1968. The image was acquired February 5, 2007, covers an area of 13 by 22 km, and is located at 5.1 degrees north latitude, 52.6 degrees west longitude.
