Banjul is the capital of The Gambia; it is located on St. Mary’s Island, where the Gambia River enters the Atlantic Ocean in western Africa. The small city is surrounded by mangroves and water; it is connected to the rest of the country by ferries and a bridge. Peanut processing is the country’s principal industry (Wikipedia). The image was acquired December 17, 2009, covers an area of 27.4 by 43.2 km, and is located at 13.5 degrees north, 16.6 degrees west.
