By March, 2006, ASTER had acquired over 1.1 million scenes over the EarthÔÇÖs land surface. This mosaic was created from about 80,000 cloud-free Level1B scenes, converted to browse-sized thumbnails. The color combination used assigns Red, Green and Blue to bands 3, 2 and 1 in a false-color infrared presentation. Vegetation appears red due to its high reflectance in the infrared (band 3). The browse mosaic was projected onto a sphere, illuminated, made to spin, and viewed from above the equator. The animation is courtesy of Vince Realmuto, JPL.
