Vikings settled North America one thousand years ago, long before Columbus arrived. At L’Anse aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland, houses and workshops provide the earliest evidence of European settlement in the New World, and have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The image was acquired August 3, 2021, covers an area of 14.6 by 15.6 km, and is located at 51.6 degrees north, 55.5 degrees west.
