The Laguna del Maule volcanic field straddles the Andean range crest between Chile and Argentina. At least 36 eruptions have occurred in the last 10,000 years, from 24 vents surrounding the lake basin. Lava flows and pumice falls have been the typical eruptive products. The image was acquired April 9, 2003, and is located near 36 degrees south latitude, 71 degrees west longitude.
