 (JPG) Lake Sharpe, SD (313,356 bytes) ( 1,382 x 1,386 )
In central South Dakota, the Missouri River forms a meander bend, creating Lake Sharpe. Eventually the Missouri River will cut through the skinny peninsula, creating a shorter path. Sediment deposition will sever Lake Sharpe from the river, forming an oxbow lake. The image was acquired September 18, 2009, covers an area of 20.7 by 20.7 km, and is located near 44.2 degrees north, 99.6 degrees west.
