Star Dunes, Morocco

 (JPG) Star Dunes, Morocco (367,192 bytes) ( 1,639 x 1,333 )
For the first time scientists have calculated the age of star dunes (or pyramid dunes). Some of the tallest – over 100 m high—are located in the Erg Chebbi sand sea in southeast Morocco. Using luminescence dating techniques, the dunes were found to have formed over 13,000 years ago. The perspective view has 5X vertical exaggeration. The image was acquired October 2, 2020, covers an area of 13.5 by 20.4 km, and is located at 31.2 degrees north, 4 degrees west.
