Lake Urmia, Iran
Lake Urmia is a saline lake in northwestern Iran. Once the largest lake in the Middle East, the lake has shrunk to 10% of its original size due to damming of its inflow rivers and pumping of groundwater. Efforts are planned to start restoring the lake to its original condition. The two images were acquired March 8, 2003 and July 12, 2014. The images cover an area of 55 by 63 km, and are located at 37.7 degrees north, 45.3 degrees east.
