The Willow Fire, growing to over 70,000 acres, spared the city of Payson, Arizona. Cooperating weather on Sunday allowed fire crews time to widen the containment line protecting the city. This image is being used by the US Forest Service Remote Sensing Application Center in Salt Lake City to help plan logistics for fighting the fire. The image was acquired July 3, 2004 and covers an area of 33.9 x 40.7 km, with Payson in the upper right. By combining visible and infrared bands, the active fires appear in red-orange, burned areas are dark red, smoke is blue, and vegetation is green. This image is located at 34.2 degrees north latitude, 111.3 degrees west longitude.
